JOHANNESBURG - Witnesses were called in to testify at the Claassen Inquiry on Wednesday morning.

On Tuesday, the probe into suspended National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega's fitness to hold office got off to a rocky start.
Evidence leaders wanted to call new witnesses but Phiyega’s lawyers opposed this.
However, Judge Neels Claassen ruled that witnesses could be called provided their evidence is relevant.
The inquiry was established by President Jacob Zuma following recommendations from the Marikana Commission.
It will look into Phiyega’s conduct before and after the 2012 Marikana shootings.
A total of 34 miners were gunned down by police during a strike by Lonmin workers in the North West.
